Kampustoday.com has learnt that the winner of the University of Cape Coast Students Representative Council (UCC SRC) election spent more than GHS 50,000 on his campaign.

This revelation comes amidst concerns by student leadership interest groups that students’ leadership campaigns are becoming too expensive thereby creating avenues for national political parties with huge funds to infiltrate the student leadership elections.

In an interview with KuulPeeps, the UCC-SRC President elect, Tony Henry Arthur said his campaign was financed from contributions from friends and family who believed in his vision for the university.

He said, continuous attempts to seek financial support from a political party (he refused to mention) proved futile since the party was not in the mood to finance campaigns of people seeking student leadership positions.

Arthur is championing transparency and financial accountability to UCC students and for that matter he made the assurance that he would not abuse his position to recover the money he spent on his campaign.

He said he did not expect to get back the money he invested into his campaign.

Checks by kampustoday.com suggest that the UCC SRC President is on unpaid job.
