The Sports Directorate in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) earlier today departed to Tarkwa for the 22nd edition of the Inter-University cross-country competition.
A 38-man contingent consisting of 28 athletes and 10 officials have been granted permission by the school to participate in the competition which takes place on Saturday 4th November 2017.
The competition organized by Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) will see eight schools battling it out for the ultimate. This year’s competition will be held in University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) for a period of four days, thus from Thursday 2nd November to Sunday 5th November 2017.
KNUST is hoping to improve upon their performance in last year’s edition after they placed 4th in the overall competition. After a successful local cross-country which took place three weeks ago on campus, the athletes as well as officials remain hopeful of coming home with flying colors.
UCC on the other hand still remains the team to beat after excellent performance last year in UDS. The likes of Legon, Winneba, UDS, UMaT, UPSA and UENR will also be representing to compete keenly for glory.
The athletes are expected to train on Thursday after which they will be taken through the routes on Friday to familiarize themselves with the demarcated area for the event.
The athletes are expected to run for 10 km through the routes of rugged surface and minimal obstructions.
