JUST IN :Gov’t released over GH¢40m to pay over 2,000 GES Staff’s Salary Arrears after NAGRAT Strike


The Government of Ghana has released some Forty-Million Three hundred and Sixty-Eight Thousand,Two Hundred and Three Ghana Cedis, Seventy-One Pesewas (40,368,203.71) to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to settle the Salary Arrears of some Two Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-Six (2,566) Staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

The said amount is expected to cover the salary arrears of the GES Staff from September 2012 to August 2016 .

In a letter signed by the Deputy Finance Minister, Hon. Abena Osei Asare for the Finance Minister, dated March 29,2018 ,the CAGD was instructed to charge the released amount against the March Salaries of the 2,566 staff of the Ghana Education Service.

The letter which was issued on the 29th of March 2018,was released on the eve of the Strike declared by the leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) .


Meanwhile, the National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT) on Wednesday,April 4,2018 declared an indefinite Strike due to government’s neglect regarding the payment of Salary Arrears.
