UCC SRC President Calls For A Modern Police Station to Address Security Concerns on Campus

The President of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of University of Cape Coast (UCC), Tony Henry Arthur has called on management of the University to liaise with necessary stakeholders to build a befitting police station at the New Site of the university.

He says the location of the UCC police station at the Old Site is not enough to address security concerns on campus and that a befitting modern police station could be sited at the new site to augment security on campus.

Management of the university has however revealed that it is strategizing to deal effectively with the security concerns. Key among them is to engage cadet corps as National service personnel to beef up security personnel on campus. This was announced by the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor George KT Oduro in response to concerns raised by the SRC President in his address at the launch of the 55th SRC Week Celebrations on April, 16, 2018.The strategy, the Pro VC indicated, is a short term measure to address the situation of armed robbery and burglary that have become a chronic concern in the University community.
he SRC President who is soon to leave office believes siting of modern police station close to or within the new site will deter would be criminals. He highlighted the need at the Launch of the SRC Week Celebration last Monday under the theme, “55 years as a partner in development and a front of advocacy”.
