The Men Soccer team of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is looking forward to come against the under twenty side of the Porcupine warriors, Kumasi Asante Koto at the launch of the Chancellor’s cup.
The Chancellor’s Cup Tournament is organized by the Sports Directorate of KNUST as part of the 20th anniversary of the Chancellor of KNUST who is also the King of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The tournament, which will be launched on Thursday 7th March, 2019 at the Paa Joe Sports Stadium will see all Six (6) traditional Halls on KNUST campus battle it out for the ultimate bragging right as champions on campus.
The competing Halls include, the University Hall (Katanga), Republic Hall, Unity Hall (Conti), Queen Elizabeth II, Africa Hall, Independence Hall, Chancellor’s hostel, SRC Hostel, Ayeduase Hostels and Diaspora Halls.
The Inter Hall football tournament is an annual event but this year’s competition is aimed at showcasing the 20th anniversary of the enstoolment of the great King of Ashanti, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II with a magnificent trophy (The Chancellor’s Cup) that represents the symbol of authority, value, respect of pageantry and embodiment of Unity that’s is prevailing in the Ashanti Land and the whole country due to the divine influence of Otumfour, the chancellor.
The tournament will span over six weeks with a launch on Thursday, March 7 where the KNUST male soccer team will play the U-20 side of Kumasi Asante Kotoko to ‘whip up’ the excitement that this tournament will generate.
The climax for the Otumfour Cup will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Paa Joe Sports Stadium where prizes are expected to be awarded to the eventual winners of the competition.
