Mawuli SHS has been adjudged the Overall winners of the just ended Central Zone Schools Sports Association’s 45th Annual Inter-School Sports Festival and for the second successive time in the Volta Region.

The one week event which was held at the Ho Sports Stadium involving 25 Schools, competing in 6 Games and Athletics events plus Cross Country, saw Mawuli topping the medal table with a total of 23; 14 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze as against last year’s 15 Gold, 7 Silver and 1 Bronze.

Mawuli after failing to defend the Volleyball Boys and Handball Boys trophies managed to retain Basketball Boys and Girls, Table Tennis Boys as well as Athletics Boys.
Managing to get to the finals of the Girls Soccer, Mawuli lost to Wallahs by a lone goal to clinch Silver. It was a beautiful final match, loved by all as the Zone targets the ultimate at the Inter-Zonal at Nkwanta. Mawuko won Bronze, after defeating Avasec 1-0 in the 3rd place match.

Mawuli were again finalists in Table Tennis Girls and Handball Girls but lost to OLA and Awusco accordingly.

Physical Education teacher at Mawuli SHS, Emmanuel Ledi who was optimistic of winning it this year again tells TalksenseSports, they focused on selected events despite their challenges.

“The motivation is the resilience and determination to pick the points or to win for the school. We are working in the Interest of the school and so no matter what happens, you have to do your best to get what they expect from you. Even though I told you earlier that we’ve lost our athletes due to the double-track system. We were optimistic that if we are able to pick specific points; pick the ones we can do, and do them well, and not target everything. That’s what exactly we did.”
In the Soccer 3rd place, Avasec beat Agosec 2-1 to secure Bronze while Akostech defeated Zistech 1-0 in tight boys final.

In cross country, Ati Stephen of Awusco won Gold with a time of 19:47:45. She was followed by Yevu Anthony of Agosec and Hadzi Justice of Dzolosec. In the Girls division, Ametor Comfort of Awusco came tops while Madai Rita of OLA and Zakpe Gifty of Agosec emerged 2bd and 3rd respectively.

The Closing Ceremony on Friday afternoon, June 14, 2019, which was marred by the rains saw trophies being presented to PE Masters and Heads of the various schools.
Mawuko Girls have adjudged the Best Behaved and presented with a trophy for their comportment and very disciplined nature.
