Hope for Blackstars of Ghana.
‘‘History’’ is an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the memory, discovery, collection, organization, presentation, and interpretation of information about these events (source: Wikipedia). It should be understood that the past does not always have a direct connection to the future. However, when the notable past events present to us a reason to hope, it can be revisited in making substantive inferences. This is what I term as tactical prognosis. When history is critically analyzed with the ultimate aim of learning some lessons, it becomes a solid foundation where success stories can be built upon.
Undoubtedly, one of the major sources of entertainment in Ghana is football. It is also one of the many ways that unite us as people with a common heritage. The Senior team (Black Stars) arguably has always been a major force to contend with in terms of exceptional display of soccer talents. It is an undeniable fact that the Black stars of Ghana has been able to produce top-class players who feature in various leagues across the globe. The output of these Ghanaian players to the overall progress of their respective clubs across the globe has earned Ghana a name that money cannot buy.
Setting the records straight, Ghana has won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) four times — in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982. The soccer stars, ‘Black Stars of Ghana’, has been runner-up five times (in 1968, 1970, 1992, 2010, and 2015). Can the fifth AFCON be won this year? Each individual is entitled to his/her own opinion yet time will tell.
The Blackstars of Ghana having played 2 games so far has earned 2 points in the ongoing 2019 AFCON. The performance with regards to points accumulation seems not to be the best. Can history repeat itself? Is there any hope of qualifying from the group stages?
What is history saying?
It is worth noting that 37 years ago, Ghana played 2-2 in the first AFCON game against Libya. The team proceeded to play against Cameroon in the second game. That match ended in a goalless draw (0-0). Ghana won the AFCON in that year(1982). The 2019 AFCON has also witnessed similar scoreline for the first 2 matches played. Ghana played 2-2 in the first match against Benin. Note that like Libya, Benin is also made up of five (5) letters. Again, Ghana played against this same Cameroon in our second game with the match ending goalless draw as it happened in 1982. Based on history, you’re not far from right to conclude that Ghana Blackstars will win the 2019 AFCON.
The Blackstars of Ghana can even draw and qualify. Group F is made up of Cameroon, Ghana, Benin,
and Guinea-Bissau. Cameroon currently tops the group with 4points and 2 goals, followed by Ghana
with 2 points and no goal, Benin with 2 points and no goal, and Guinea-Bissau with 1 point and negative
2 goals.
If Cameroon wins their next match against Benin and Ghana draws against Guinea-Bissau, Ghana
qualifies with 3 points and no goal as the runner-up. Also, Ghana automatically qualifies with 5 points
from the group stages with a win in the next match against Guinea-Bissau.
Indeed, qualifying from the group stages is a done deal for the Black stars of Ghana and we hope to win
the AFCON for the fifth time. It is possible! Now is the time to rally behind the team. Let’s support the
Black stars of Ghana with all our strength and might. Together, let’s make history!
Go Ghana!
Go Blackstars!
