Students of the University of Ghana at the Accra City campus are alleging that some promises made to them by the Vice-Chancellor of the University at a meeting last year are yet to be fulfilled.
According to them, despite some assurances from University management, the Accra City campus is still bedeviled with challenges that are affecting effective teaching and learning.
Students Representative Council president at the Accra City campus, Solomon Ocansey, in an interview with UniversNews, recalled that it was for the same reasons that his office petitioned the Vice-Chancellor.
“Considering the challenges that the Accra city Campus is facing, we haven’t seen many developments in the school. As SRC, the situation led us to collate signatories to directly petition the Vice-Chancellor on the issue.” Solomon Ocansey said.
Solomon Ocansey further indicated although the Vice-Chancellor met with the student leadership at the Accra City Campus over their grievances, the assurances he made to them are yet to come to fruition.
“At a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu declared that he approved 25 laptops to be given out to Accra City Campus, but when I engaged the School management the response is that the issue has to do with procurement, as it stances now,” he said.
Regarding matters of security on Accra City Campus, Solomon Ocansey said that his administration is working together with the National Security to regularly patrol the area.
He also noted that even though the school has been offered library stocks recently, there is still a need for more learning materials.
